Add a domain or subdomain to your hosting

Updated 10 hours ago 3 views

Your hosting account can serve more than one website. Each site has its own domain or subdomain and its own folder in your account. Manage them in the Control Panel under Domains and sites.

Additional domain or subdomain?

  • An additional domain is another domain of yours, such as my-second-shop.com, with its own website.
  • A subdomain is a name under one of your domains, such as blog.yourdomain.com.

Your plan sets how many of each you can add; Domains and sites shows how many you use.

Adding one

  1. Point the domain to our servers first, so its HTTPS certificate can be issued straight away: see Point a domain to our servers. For a subdomain of a domain whose DNS we host, add the record under DNS records; a CNAME to your main domain is the simplest.
  2. Under Domains and sites, Add a domain or subdomain, enter the name and press Add.
  3. The request is reviewed by our staff, usually within a working day (see Requests: how changes to your hosting are made). We check, for example, that the domain is yours and not in use by another customer.
  4. Once done, the site appears in the list, with its folder (for example ~/blog.yourdomain.com). Upload its files there: Upload your website with SFTP.

A new additional domain also answers on its www. name.

Removing one

Remove next to a site, then type its name to confirm. The site is no longer served once the request is carried out; its files stay in your account, so you can download them or add the site again later. The main domain of a hosting service cannot be removed this way.

Good to know

  • A domain that is already set up on our servers, or that belongs to another customer, cannot be added. If it is yours, contact us and we will move it.
  • Each site gets an HTTPS certificate once its domain points to us: HTTPS certificates (SSL/TLS).
  • All sites of your account share its PHP settings and databases.
