Forwarders and catch-all addresses

Updated 10 hours ago 3 views

A forwarder is an address at your domain without a mailbox of its own: mail to it is passed on to one or more other addresses, at your domain or anywhere else. Manage them in the Control Panel under Forwarders.

Create a forwarder

  1. Open Forwarders and scroll to Create a forwarder.
  2. Enter the address, for example sales, and the destinations, one per line (up to 10).
  3. Create forwarder. It works immediately.

Edit changes the destinations or switches a forwarder off; Delete removes it.

Typical uses: sales@ going to two colleagues, info@ going to an address you already read elsewhere, an old address that should keep reaching a new one.

Catch-all

The catch-all receives mail for addresses at your domain that do not exist. Under Forwarders, Catch-all, enter where such mail should go, or leave it empty to refuse it.

We recommend leaving the catch-all off: spammers send to made-up addresses, and a catch-all collects all of it. When it is off, senders who mistype an address get a clear error message back, so they can correct it.

Forwarding to other providers

Messages forwarded to providers such as Gmail or Outlook.com keep their original sender. If those providers filter or reject forwarded mail, the mail log shows their reply. Forwarding spam onward can hurt how those providers rate mail from your domain; our spam filter stops most of it before it is forwarded.

Good to know

  • An address can be either an email account or a forwarder, not both. To deliver to an account and forward, use the account's Forwarding with Keep a copy in this mailbox: see Create and manage email accounts.
  • Your plan may limit the number of forwarders; the panel shows how many you use.
