The Mail log in the Control Panel shows what our mail servers did with mail to and from your domains: whether a message was delivered, delayed, bounced or blocked as spam, mail that was refused before it was accepted, and logins to your email accounts. Entries are kept for 30 days.
Messages
Each line is one delivery of one message to one recipient:
- Received: mail to your addresses (including mail passed on by your forwarders)
- Sent: mail your email accounts sent; you see all its recipients
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Delivered | handed over to the recipient's mailbox or mail server |
| Delayed | the receiving server did not accept it yet; we keep trying for several days |
| Bounced | the receiving server refused it for good; the sender got a notice with the reason |
| Gave up | it could not be delivered in that time and was returned to the sender |
| Blocked | our spam and virus filter stopped it; see Spam and virus filtering |
The grey text under the status is the reply of the receiving server, often the best clue: mailbox full, user unknown, rejected as spam. Details shows everything we know about the message: subject (when logged), size, the server it came from, the spam filter's verdict and score, and every delivery attempt.
Refused
Mail refused before it was accepted, with the reason: the sending server is on a blocklist, the address does not exist, the message was rejected by our content checks. The sender's server gets the same reason back.
Logins
Every login to your email accounts over IMAP or POP3, and every failed login (including sending with a wrong password), with the IP address it came from. Many failed logins for one account can mean someone is trying to guess its password: choose a strong new one under Email accounts.
Finding a message
Choose the period (24 hours, 7 or 30 days), filter by status, or search for part of an address. Show older loads more. If a message you expected is not there at all, it never reached our servers: the sender's provider can tell why.
When you contact us about a message, include the mail server and queue id from its details.
