Create a MySQL database

Updated 9 hours ago 1 views

Websites such as WordPress, shops and forums keep their content in a MySQL database. Manage yours in the Control Panel under MySQL databases.

The details your website needs

MySQL databases shows:

  • Database user: one user for all databases of your account
  • Host (for your site's code): the database server name to enter in your website's configuration
  • your databases, with their size

Creating a database

  1. Under Create a database, enter a short name (a letter, then letters, digits or underscores; up to 16 characters). The panel puts your account's prefix in front, for example jsmith_shop.
  2. Create. The database is created automatically, usually within a minute.
  3. The first time a database is created for your account, a password for your database user is generated: open Requests and press Show password next to the request. It is shown only once, so save it right away, for example in your password manager.

Your plan sets how many databases you can have; the panel shows how many you use.

Resetting the database password

Reset the database password gives your database user a new password, shown once under Requests as above. Our staff carry this out. Your websites cannot reach their databases until their configuration (for WordPress: wp-config.php) has the new password, so update it as soon as you have it.

Good to know

  • The database user can use all databases of your account, so one password serves all your sites.
  • To look at or change data, export or import a database, use phpMyAdmin: Manage your data with phpMyAdmin.
  • Databases count towards your plan's disk space.
